I am Alvaro Castañeda, best known as “varomix.”
I lost a little of my self back in 1993 at a Jurassic Park screening. I didn’t know how they did that. I didn’t even know computer yet, but I knew for sure I had to do that, what ever it is, I have to do it.
That totally changed my life. Toy Story finished the job in 1995 — there was no turning back. I started my way in 3D back in 1998, first using 3ds max, then Cinema4D and finally in 1999 met maya 2.0. Maya totally blew my mind from the start. I had been a coder before in earlier computer years, and I loved the way maya blends the artistical and technical worlds.
Since then I’ve done CGI for print, web, TV, Film, DVD, I guess anything that has pixels in it.
The last five years of my life, me and a few partners have built a world class animation studio with a lot of success.
I love to share my knowledge. I learned by my self, using books, the early internet forums, tutorials and lots of trial and error. I also learned from a lot of people, great people that share their knowledge.
That’s why I love to share, also a great way to learn from other people. I totally love the total beginner questions, because their questions are not filled with software limits. They ask wild questions and always get you into new ways of thinking.
I have a gorgeous wife and a beautiful daughter. I can be found in the park or at the movies with them when I’m not eating pixels.
